China’s Citrus Industry: Mixed Fortunes in 2025–2026 Season

January 21, 2026

China’s citrus industry exports are surging. Sichuan’s citrus exports lead the country, with brands like Jianzhou Late Mandarin gaining access to Russia, Thailand, and Malaysia after securing ISO 22000 and EAC certifications. Since December 2025, Chengdu’s Xinjin district has shipped over 1,000 tons of Aiyuan and Shiranui mandarins overseas, with 200+ tons in January 2026 orders.

Technology and sustainability are driving premium growth. In Pujiang, Sichuan, citrus with carbon labels (showing 50% lower CO₂ emissions) command a 10–30% price premium. Advanced cold storage and greenhouse farming also extend shelf life and stabilize supply, helping China offer fresh citrus year-round.

Looking ahead, the industry is shifting toward high-value varieties and export-oriented production to balance domestic oversupply. While short-term price pain persists, long-term trends favor quality, sustainability, and global market expansion.
